Your first months, mapped
Three situations find every new EI provider, usually in this order. Each one has a course built for it by a bilingual SLP who has spent over a decade in those living rooms.

The first sessions
Walk into session one with a plan
Your first family is on your caseload and nobody has told you what an EI session actually looks like. Not in a clinic: in a living room, with a parent watching. This course is that missing orientation, your first ten sessions laid out.

- Describe key components of Early Intervention (EI) services for children ages 0–3, including session structure, developmental milestones, and parent collaboration strategies.
- Identify step-by-step strategies to plan and conduct the first 10 EI sessions, including selecting appropriate materials, assessments, and how to include the caregiver in the process.
- Evaluate a child’s developmental and communication needs during EI sessions by observing behaviors, interpreting caregiver input, and documenting progress.

Children without words yet
Reach the child who doesn't speak
Early on your caseload you will meet a child with no spoken words, and “keep modeling” will not feel like enough. AAC is the skill that turns those sessions around, and it is far more approachable than it looks.

- Describe the purpose of AAC in early intervention and its impact on language development in children ages 0–3.
- Identify key signs and communication behaviors that may indicate a need for AAC support in toddlers.

The hard days
Keep the session when behavior gets big
Thrown toys, refusals, tears: every new provider meets a session that stops being about speech. What you need is a way to understand what the behavior is saying and a plan that keeps the family with you.
